Thanking our student volunteers
What Bridget Ryan (Westford Academy class of 2010) said to the class of 2013 student volunteers as they received their NVSO awards for excellence of service:
“Each year Nashoba Valley Special Olympics runs various programs for children with special needs. Each week the athletes show up with a smile on their faces and immediately look for the partner they have had for the previous weeks. While the partners may not always realize it, they mean the world to the athlete they work with. Over the past six years as a volunteer for NVSO, I have learned much more from the athletes then I think all of them have learned from me combined. I have seen joy, anger, fear, and triumph at the summer games when each athlete earns a medal for his or performance. Although it is not always easy, it certainly is worth it. All of our athletes take so much from the programs they participate, and without our wonderful volunteers we would not be able to run the programs that we do. So we would like to take this time to honor our senior partners.”
